Box Score
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's soccer team (4-7-1, 0-3-1 SSC) fell to the visiting Tampa Spartans (12-1-1, 2-1-1 SSC), 1-0, Tuesday night, at the NSU Soccer Complex.
The difference in the match came in the sixth minute, when Tampa's Kaley Ward dribbled the ball down the right touch line and drove a low ball into the center of the box. Chelsea Martin was able to trap the ball and take a low driven shot that just found its way past the hands of goalkeeper
Sandra Rolon (Jr., San Juan, P.R.). Rolon finished the match with four saves, keeping the match close until the final whistle.
Senior
Alexandra Siciliano (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) kept the Spartan's goalkeeper Alyson Gregorowicz on her toes for the majority of the match, taking a team-high three shots. Siciliano's best opportunity came in the 36th minute, when her shot from a couple of yards outside of the box, found its way just over the crossbar and out for a goal kick.
The Sharks defense held strong, preventing the fourth-best scoring offense in the nation (3.38 goals per game) to 11 shots, only four of which were on target.
Tampa's defense also did all it could to slow down the NSU attack, preventing the dangerous foot of Malin Broberg (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) from attempting a shot. The Spartans also held the Sharks to zero shots on goal, the first time for NSU this season.
Tampa had the edge on shots in the match, 11-6. The Spartans also had eight more corners than NSU, 9-1.
