FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team takes to the road for the final three matches of their near-month-long stretch away from home, for the South Region Crossover on the campus of West Georgia University in Carrollton, Ga.
The Sharks (3-11, 0-6 SSC) have not played on their home floor since Sept. 28, with four matches over the last two weeks, all in-conference. They look to rebound against two squads from the Gulf South Conference, as well as a rematch against independent Palm Beach Atlantic.
Two matches will take place on Friday, against West Alabama (8-8, 2-6 GSC) at 2 p.m., and PBA (17-3) at 7. Heading into the weekend, UWA has lost their last four. The Tigers take on the host school of the Crossover, West Georgia, in a GSC matchup on Thursday night before taking part in the event itself.
The Sharks and Sailfish met up in Fort Lauderdale on Sept. 17, a 3-0 PBA win that came in the midst of a nine-match winning streak for the team. After back-to-back losses, they've won their last seven.
NSU wraps up play in Carrollton on Saturday when they take on Shorter (9-6, 5-4 GSC) at 11:30 a.m. The Hawks are provisional members of DII and will be eligible for postseason play beginning next season. They have won five of their last six matches, all in-conference.
The Sharks' outside hitters continue to slot among the SSC statistical leaders.
Sydney Cook (So., Miami) is fifth in both kills (3.11 per set) and points (3.71 per), while
Dana Holger (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) is 11th in kills (2.93) and 12th in points (3.32). In addition, Cook ranks tied for 14th in aces (0.31).
Also appearing on the conference leaderboards is
Katie Pyles (Fr., Denver), sixth in assists (7.39), while Candice Johnson (Jr., Chuluota, Fla.) is 11th in digs (3.27). The duo has racked up big numbers in their respective categories as of late, as Pyles has notched 20 or more assists in each of her last four matches, including 35 against Rollins, while Johnson set a new NSU best with 20 digs vs. the Tars, with double digits in each of the last four contests as well.
