The Buccaneers' Lauren Manna tallied her second game-winning goal of the season in the 12th minute of the match. Manna took a high arching shot from the right side of the goal box that found its way over everyone's head and into the far side of the net, giving the Bucs a 1-0 lead.
The Sharks best opportunity of the first half came with 3:30 left, when
Rut Kristjansdottir (Fr., Reykjavik, Iceland) blasted a shot from just outside the box. The ball was finding its way into the top left corner of the goal, before goalkeeper Becca Rogers batted it down out of the air.
The Sharks finished the half with five shots, one on target. The Bucs came out of the half quickly, scoring 43 seconds into the second period. Natalie Diaz took a well-driven shot from about 25 yards out on the left wing and found the far corner of the goal.
Malin Broberg (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) nearly cut the lead in half with 17 minutes remaining, after
Allyson Buerosse (Sr., Lighthouse Point, Fla.) sent a ball over the top, giving Broberg a one-on-one chance. Broberg attempted to chip the ball over the goalkeeper, however, the ball bounced just wide of the target.
Less than two minutes later,
Hannah Davis (Fr., Bradenton, Fla.) nearly netted her first collegiate goal, when she rattled a shot off the crossbar. Barry was able to clear the ball out of the box before the Sharks could get another opportunity.
The match was nearly even in terms of shots, with the Bucs edging out the Sharks, 13-12.
Goalkeeper
Sandra Rolon (Jr., San Juan, P.R.) recorded four saves on the evening.
The Sharks will go home to start their three-game home stand Saturday, Oct. 12 against Saint Leo, at the NSU Soccer Complex. The match is set for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
