Box Score
LAKELAND, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team fell in three sets to Florida Southern on Friday night, 25-10, 25-19, 25-15.
The Sharks (5-15, 1-8 SSC) fell behind by hefty margins in the opening and closing sets. In the first, it was 11-4 and 17-7. The Mocs (18-8, 7-3 SSC) hit .444 for the set to take a 1-0 lead.
The middle set saw NSU get out to a quick start, going up 10-3 with kills coming from four different Sharks. FSC flipped the score, going on a 10-3 run of their own to tie it at 13-13. The next 11 points had no more than a three-point spread either way, but the Mocs clinched the set by scoring the last three points to win, 25-19.
The third was much like the opening frame, with FSC going up 17-4 to start. Though the Sharks outscored the home team the rest of the way, 11-8, it was too little, too late. The Mocs had a hitting percentage of .545 in the final set and earned the sweep, both on Friday and for the season, 25-15.
Sydney Cook (So., Miami) was the Sharks' leader in kills (nine) and was one behind
Katie Pyles (Fr., Denver) in digs, eight to seven. Pyles assisted on 19 of the team's 23 kills, with
Candice Johnson (Jr., Chuluota, Fla.) notching the other four. Johnson added five digs.
The Sharks are right back at it again on the road Saturday afternoon when they travel to play Eckerd College at 4 p.m.
