Sharks end play with two home matches next weekend

Box Score

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team dropped their final road match of the 2013 season, to the Saint Leo Lions on Friday night, 25-21, 25-18, 25-19.

Sydney Cook (So., Miami) led the Sharks (5-20, 1-13 SSC) and tied for game-high honors with Saint Leo's Tawni Warren with 10 kills. Next up for NSU, with four apiece, were Dana Holger (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) and Destiny Bannister (Jr., Kendall, Fla.).

Holger paced the visitors with nine digs, followed by Maison Burr (Fr., St. Clair, Mich.) with seven. Katie Pyles (Fr., Denver) had 22 assists in the loss.

The Lions (20-9, 7-5 SSC) led from start to finish in the opening set. There were five ties, the last at 13-13. Later, a Holger kill drew the Sharks to within 16-15, but the Lions would score six of the next seven for their largest advantage at 22-16.

NSU would score the next two to cut it to four, and eventually have it down to three at 24-21, but a Lauren Campbell kill put Saint Leo up 1-0.

Set two saw the teams trade leads early, but Saint Leo held it for good with the exception of ties at 6-6, 7-7 and 8-8. The third was more of the same, with the final tie also at 8-8, and the Lions hit .364 in the frame to earn the sweep.

NSU will return home for their last two matches of the year next weekend, hosting No. 2 Tampa on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m., and then, prior to their 4 p.m. start the following day against Rollins, having their annual Senior Night ceremonies. Both matches can be seen live here on NSUSharks.com.
