FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men's soccer team (3-9-3, 0-7-1 SSC) finished its season with a home loss to the Florida Southern Mocs (5-8-1, 3-4-1 SSC), 1-0, Saturday at the NSU Soccer Complex.
Before the match, seniors
Nathan Cox (Fircrest, Wash.),
Matthew Ilter (Lake Mary, Fla.) and
Stefano Noce (Salerno, Italy) were honored for their years of dedication in their final match at the NSU Soccer Complex. The three athletes began playing in 2010 and have all served as captains for NSU over the last four seasons.
The Sharks played a close match in which they were they aggressor, but gave up a lone goal in the 67th minute. Luke Jenner secured his team's place in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with his fifth goal of the season, scoring from the right side.
Prior to the goal, NSU played an even first half with the Mocs. NSU outshot Florida Southern, 5-4, over the first 45 minutes. The best chance in the first half came from Ilter, who's shot from the left side was just saved by Florida Southern's Cole Clingerman.
The Sharks and Mocs looked to be in a stalemate at the start of the second period, with neither team gaining an advantage. That changed in the 67th minute, when the Mocs scored the only goal of the match. From there, Florida Southern only took two more shots, both of which were off target.
The Mocs played a tight defense down the stretch that kept the Sharks from earning a shot on goal, despite NSU's seven second-half shots. The final shot output would be in NSU's favor after 90 minutes, 12-7.
Jo Jien Lee (Fr., Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) made his first career start in goal and collected three saves.
