Women’s Soccer Loses Heartbreaker in Overtime to Mocs, 2-1

The loss ends the Sharks’ 2013 season.

Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's soccer team (5-10-2, 1-6-1 SSC) dropped an overtime heartbreaker to the Florida Southern Mocs (4-10-4, 2-5-1 SSC), 2-1, in ovetime, Saturday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.

The loss mathematically eliminates the Sharks from the postseason and ends the fabulous careers of their seven seniors: Allyson Buerosse (Lighthouse Point, Fla.), Malin Broberg (Stockholm, Sweden), Andi Burchfield (Greenville, S.C.), Kat Fleming (Miami, Fla.), Dilja Olafsdottir (Rekjavik, Iceland), Alexandra Siciliano (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Jennifer Tabares (Orlando, Fla.). Prior to the match the seniors were recognized on senior night for all of their hard work.

Caroline Evers played spoiler in the 95th minute, scoring on a one-timed shot from point blank range to give the Mocs the win. Kristey Legoas played a perfect low driven cross across the face of goal to set up Evers for the goal.

After a scoreless first half, the Sharks' Broberg scored the match's first goal in the 48th minute. Broberg created her own chance from the top right corner of the box, and took a shot from that area with a couple of Mocs defenders draped around her. Her shot made its way over the outstretched hands of FSC goalkeeper Erin Moseley, off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net.

With confidence and momentum on NSU's side, the Sharks held the slight advantage up to four minutes left to play in the match. The Mocs' Sarah Goolsby took the air out of the NSU Soccer Complex with a goal in the 87th minute of the match. Goolsby did her best Broberg impression, making her way past a few Sharks defenders and put the ball into the back of the net on a right-footed shot, near post.

Despite allowing the two goals, Rachel Lopez Fr., Orlando, Fla.) kept NSU in the match all the way until the end. With seven minutes to play, Lopez made a huge point blank save to keep the score line at 1-0. Lopez made five saves in the match.
