FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team returns to the NSU Arena for its next-to-last homestand of the season, against Florida Tech on Friday and Barry on Saturday, with both matches beginning at 7 p.m.
The Sharks (5-16, 1-9 SSC) fell twice last weekend on the road, to Florida Southern and Eckerd. They look to bounce back against two of the three teams equal to or above them in the conference standings, as NSU is tied with Barry for eighth, while Florida Tech sits alone in sixth.
First up on Friday is FIT (14-10, 4-6 SSC), who have lost their last four matches and five of six. Their last two matches were at home: a straight-set defeat at the hands of No. 2 Tampa, and a four-set loss to Rollins. These two teams met in Melbourne, Fla., back on Oct. 5, a 3-0 FIT win.
Florida Tech's top players league¬wide are Angie Lassman, second in digs (4.99); Alea Hamm, fourth in blocks (1.04); and Ashtin Truesdale, fourth in assists (8.33).
Barry (8-14, 1-9 SSC) comes into town on Saturday on a five-match losing skid. They too dropped matches to Rollins and Tampa, and last time out, fell to Palm Beach Atlantic. Their only SSC win of the season came at the expense of the Sharks, in straight sets on Oct. 4 in Miami Shores.
The Buccaneers lead the SSC in aces (1.78 per set), with Jenny Trinidad ranking third among all individuals (0.40). She is also ninth in assists (6.78).
For the Sharks,
Sydney Cook (So., Miami) continues to lead the team and is fifth in the SSC in kills at 3.19 per match.
Dana Holger (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) is second and 12th respectively at 2.71.
Katie Pyles (Fr., Denver) is seventh in the conference with an assist average of 7.66, and she is 18th in aces (0.28).
Candice Johnson (Jr., Chuluota, Fla.) is 10th in digs in the league (226, 3.32 per).
