FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (13-10, 5-8 SSC) dropped its second-to-last home game of the season to the Rollins Tars (17-6, 9-4 SSC) Wednesday at home, 56-48.
Justin Jeangerard (So., Weaverville, Calif.) scored a team-best 15 points in the contest on 5-for-6 shooting. He took all of his shots from 3-point range. He also brought down a team-best six rebounds and dished out two assists.
Maurice Fuller (So., Westfield, Ind.) followed suit, scoring 11 points in the contest.
Brian Cahill (So., Arlington, Va.) recorded a team-best five assists and brought down four rebounds.
The Sharks fell behind in the first half, getting in a hole they could not shoot their way out of. The Sharks tied Rollins early at 8-8, but the Tars repeatedly knocked down 3-pointers to outscore the Sharks, 19-8, over a 10-minute stretch. Rollins shot 5-for-8 from 3-point range during their run. The Sharks would enter the break trailing, 29-19. NSU struggled to hit shots in the first half, shooting 33 percent.
NSU kept pace with Rollins at the start of the second half and slowly cut down the deficit. After
Sean Mullan (Sr., Mangerton, Australia) drained a layup with 7:23 left, the Sharks trailed by only seven points. However, the Sharks squashed their momentum by committing three straight turnovers. The Tars turned the Sharks’ mistakes into five points.
Over the last six minutes, Rollins only needed one field goal to maintain the lead, as NSU shot 3-for-8 during the span. On the night, NSU shot 17-or-45 from the floor and 9-for-25 from 3-point range.
Iran Hollis (Sr., Hollywood, Fla.) and
Lukas Roesch (Sr., Sugar Grove, Ohio) each scored seven points against Rollins. Hollis collected five boards, while Roesch recorded two steals.
Louie Schonauer (Sr., Lincoln, Ill.) came off the bench and scored five points to lead all reserves.
NSU will play its final home game of the season Saturday against Lynn at 4 p.m. Prior to the game, six seniors will be honored during Senior Day celebrations.
