FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer players
Austin Foor (Fr., Sunbury, Ohio) and
Andrea Giombetti (Jr., Rome) swept Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week awards for the week ending Sept. 22.
Foor earned the offensive honors with a breakout week for NSU, scoring two goals, including the first goal against Lynn at home last Wednesday. Foor scored his first career goal in the first half against Lynn, knocking in a free kick sent into the box. After Lynn scored their only goal of the match, Foor put an exclamation point on the victory with a goal in the 87th minute. He took three shots in the contest, with all three on target. Against Tampa, Foor assisted the Sharks in the midfield and held the Spartans scoreless on their field.
Third-year goalkeeper Giombetti earned the defensive award after facing two top-25 teams last week. His high mark was a shutout of Tampa on the road, a team that had averaged three goals a match coming into the contest. Against Lynn, Giombetti earned the win by only allowing one goal. That goal came late when the Sharks were already up 3-0. Through the first five matches this season, Giombetti has averaged 0.57 goals against and has shutout three opponents.
Foor and Giombetti will look to keep the ball rolling this week when they return home to face Florida Tech Wednesday at 6 p.m.
