FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team fell for the second time this weekend to a Sunshine State Conference rival, 3-0 to Florida Southern on Saturday at the NSU Arena (25-18, 25-14, 25-12).
The first set saw the Mocs (10-3, 3-0 SSC) use two 5-0 runs to first open up a close game, and then put it away late. A
Caitlin Donahue (So., Miami) kill drew the Sharks (3-7, 0-2 SSC) to within 9-7, but five straight by FSC doubled them up on the home team. Then, after a
Maison Burr (Fr., St. Clair, Mich.) ace cut it to 17-12, five more by the Mocs put them up 10, and they eventually won the set 25-18.
FSC began the second frame with 4-0 lead, and when the Sharks cut it to 6-4, it was an 8-0 run to push the visitors up 10 (14-4). NSU was unable to get any closer than eight the rest of the way as the Mocs went up 2-0.
The third set saw the Mocs continue their momentum out of the gate. They scored the first six, and were up 7-1 and 14-3. Despite the great play in the set by the debuting
Sakkara Hart (Fr., Vero Beach, Fla.), who had two kills and two blocks, the Mocs completed the sweep with a 25-12 final set.
Dana Holger (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) again led the team in kills, with seven.
Sydney Cook (So., Miami) had five, while
Tory Njardvik (So., Livingston, Mont.) and Hart each added three.
Katie Pyles (Fr., Denver) had 16 of the team's 22 assists, while Cook led the way in digs with nine.
NSU is back in action with a two-match, in-conference road trip next weekend, beginning Friday, Oct. 4 at Barry at 7 p.m. The following day, the Sharks travel north to Florida Tech, for a 4 p.m. tilt.
