Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team (1-1-0) ended the weekend on a high note with a lopsided 4-0 victory over North Georgia (1-1-0) Sunday at the NSU Soccer Complex.

The Sharks had four separate goal scorers on Sunday, three of which scored their first collegiate goal. The game-winning goal came from David Robles (Jr., Miami), who scored in the 40th minute. Prior to his goal and after a 2-hour weather delay, the Sharks were pressing and had outshot North Georgia, 8-2. The offensive attack culminated on a corner kick from  Andrea Spuntarelli (Jr., Rome), who nearly scored himself. His corner deflected off the hands of the goalkeeper, bounced off the post and right to Robles who tapped it in. It was the first goal of Robles' career in his 28th match with the Sharks.

The Sharks continued to apply the pressure in the second half against North Georgia, a team that was fresh off a win against Sunshine State Conference rival Barry. Freshman striker Viktor Jonsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) scored his first collegiate goal in the 52nd minute. Jonsson made a heads up play by stripping the defender 20 yards in front of the goal and firing just after stepping in the 18-yard box. He had a team-high four shots on the night.

In the 67th minute, Guido Riffeser (Jr., Bolzano, Italy) scored his first goal of the season. Mattia Marzetti (So., Rome) started the play by sending the ball into scoring range to Erdi Guelac (So., Bavaria, Germany). The newcomer sent a cross to Riffeser on the right side, who scored before the keeper could get back into position. It was Riffeser's second career goal.

The final goal came from Dylan Papa (Fr., Farmington, Conn.), who was making his second appearance and first start for NSU. The opportunity was created by a shot on goal from Vincenzo Padula (Jr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) on the left side of the box in the 85th minute. Papa put himself in position to receive the deflection off the goalkeeper and scored his first collegiate goal.

The Sharks recorded 20 shots in the match, 10 in each half, with eight on target. Andrea Giombetti (Jr., Rome) only needed to record one save in his first win of the year.

The last time the Sharks scored four goals was in their 2012 season debut against Ave Maria. NSU will have a rematch with Ave Maria Wednesday on the road at 7 p.m.
