Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (10-12, 3-7 SSC) fell to the Rollin Tars (14-11, 6-5 SSC), 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-12) Saturday on the road.
Caitlin Donahue (Jr., Miami, Fla.) and
Sydney Cook (Jr., Miami, Fla.) led the team in kills with six a piece.
Candice Johnson (Sr., Chuluota, Fla.) led the team in digs with 17, followed by Cook with 13.
Katie Pyles (So., Denver, Colo.) notched 15 of team's 19 assists in the match.
Rollins took the first set, 25-17, as the Sharks struggled to create momentum in the opening set. The Tars took an early lead but NSU was able to cut the deficit from 10 to six. Down 16-6, the Sharks went on a 5-2 run on three kills by Cook and two service aces from Donahue. However, the Tars took advanced on a side out and never looked back, as they held the Sharks to only six more points before closing the set, 25-17.
NSU bounced back early in the second set, as an early three-point rally on two kills and a Rollins' error allowed a, 3-1, lead. The Tars came from behind and after a short battle, took the lead on back-to-back kills and an NSU error for a 12-9 lead. Rollins allowed four more points from that point on before a kill by Jennifer Ceballos closed the game, 25-13.
The closing set saw an early, 9-3 Rollins lead, but the Sharks capitalized on a sideout and came to their closest margin of the game at, 9-7. The rally was sparked by a kill by Donahue and three Tars errors. NSU was able to keep the score within three points on kills by
Dana Holger (Lino Lakes, Minn.) and Donahue, before Rollins scored ten in a row, broken on a error at 24-11. Cook brought in the last point for the Sharks on a kill before the Tars closed the game, 25-12.
The Sharks return to the court
Friday, October 31, at 7 p.m. to host Lynn at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center.
