LIVE VIDEO | LIVE STATSFORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team (6-6-1, 3-4-0 SSC) is set to host the No. 4 Lynn Fighting Knights (12-1-1, 6-0-1 SSC) Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the NSU Soccer Complex.
NSU's schedule has been called the toughest in the nation this year, and it only becomes more difficult when the nation's fourth ranked team comes to the NSU Soccer Complex Wednesday. However, NSU's postseason fate has already been sealed, regardless of the result. NSU has cemented fifth place in the Sunshine State Conference and will face Rollins on the road Tuesday, Nov. 4 in the quarterfinals.
NSU enters this match looking to build momentum for the conference tournament. The Sharks are coming off a 3-1 postseason-clinching victory over the Eckerd Tritons Saturday. It was a wild affair, with NSU scoring the first goal of the match in the opening five minutes, Eckerd equalizing in the 86th minute and the Sharks scoring twice in the final two minutes. The Tritons bounced back well from the heartbreaking loss, defeating Barry this past Monday and sealing the sixth seed in the tournament.
NSU has had success against ranked Lynn teams at home in recent years, defeating the Fighting Knights at home two years in a row. NSU defeated the No. 6 Fighting Knights last season, 4-1. Karl Enarsson (Jr., Gothenburg, Sweden) and Stefano Fanfoni (Jr., Cremona, Italy) each scored in the upset. In 2012, NSU topped the eventual NCAA National Champions, No. 1 Lynn, 1-0. Fanfoni scored the only goal of the match, while Andrea Giombetti (Sr., Rome, Italy) notched four saves in the shutout.
NSU will have to prepare for Fighting Knights sophomore Chris Hellman, who is a strong candidate for SSC Player of the Year. He leads the conference in nearly every offensive category, including goals, assists and game-winning goals. He has guided Lynn to the most potent offense in the SSC, scoring a league-best 2.53 goals per game.
