Box Score LAKELAND, Fla – Two quick early goals and a second-half penalty kick propelled the Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team to a 3-1 conference road win over Florida Southern on Saturday night.
The Sharks (4-3-1, 1-2-0 SSC) got on the board first in the 6th minute, when
Victor Nirennold (So., Rennes, France) chipped a shot over FSC goalkeeper Cole Clingerman for a 1-0 lead.
Karl Enarsson (Jr., Gothenburg, Sweden) was credited with the assist.
His Shark counterpart,
Andrea Giombetti (Sr., Rome, Italy), snagged a difficult save less than two minutes later off the foot of Jonathan Radvogin to keep the advantage, and in the 14th, the Shark built onto the lead.
It was then that
Emilio Blanco (Fr., Weston, Fla.) received a pass from
Andrea Spuntarelli (Sr., Rome, Italy), middle in, and got another ball past Clingerman, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage. That would be the score at the break as well.
FSC (4-4-1, 0-2-0 SSC) entered the scoring column in the 52nd, as some nice dribbling through traffic led to an unassisted goal by Priit Preedo, but the Sharks got their two-goal advantage back in the 59th. After a Mocs handball in the box,
Viktor Jonsson (So., Reykjavik, Iceland) converted the penalty kick to move up 3-1.
Giombetti would end up with two more saves after the break and earned the victory. The Sharks edged the Mocs in shots, 11-10, though the home team had one more on goal, 7-6.
The Sharks return home on Wednesday night and host border rival Barry with a 7 p.m. start, following the completion of the women's match against the Bucs.
