FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (8-7, 3-3 SSC) faces Barry (9-6, 2-4 SSC) Tuesday, Oct. 7 in Miami Shores, Fla.
The team's match against Barry marks NSU's fifth straight Sunshine State Conference away match, with recent results seeing NSU falling to both Saint Leo and Florida Southern last weekend.
Leading the team in hitting percentage both against the Lions and Mocs,
Caitlin Donahue (Jr., Miami, Fla.) is fourth in the SSC at .356.
Sydney Cook (Jr., Miami, Fla.) is in the top ten in the SSC in kills with 159 (2.89 per set), while
Katie Pyles (So., Denver, Colo.) ranks fifth in assists at 410 (7.45 per set). Cook also ranks defensively at third in the SSC in blocks with 58, alongside
Candice Johnson (Sr., Chuluota, Fla.), who ranks second in digs with 253 (4.60 per set).
The two squads are one spot away from each other in SSC standings, with NSU at fifth and Barry at sixth.
The Barry Buccaneers host the competition after falling to the Saint Leo Lions, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-19), in their most recent outing. Jayla Trombley finished the game with a team-high 10 kills and five digs, followed by SSC ranked Tashalyn Begon with eight kills. Brittany Jaco led the team defensively with 13 digs.
In the last NSU-Barry matchup, the Sharks fell to the Bucs, 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-14). Cook was the only Shark in double digits in kills with 13. Johnson had a match-best 16 digs and Pyles had 27 assists with only one ball-handling error.
