Volleyball Faces No. 1 Tampa on Dig Pink Night

The College of Pharmacy holds its family night at the game for its 8th year in a row.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (8-8, 3-4 SSC) hosts No. 1 Tampa (13-1, 6-0 SSC) in the annual Dig Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Night, presented by Moe's Southwest Grill on University Drive in Davie, Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center.

The matchup is held to help raise awareness for breast cancer and will feature free pink shirts to the first 200 fans.

The College of Pharmacy will also be attendance to hold its family night at the game for the eighth consecutive year. Lisa Deziel, PharmD PHD, the dean of the College of Pharmacy, will be presented the game ball by Dana Holger (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn.), head coach Jennifer King and Moe's Southwest Grill general manager Ashley Hampton in a pregame ceremony.

The Sharks face the Spartans at home after five road matches in Sunshine State Conference play. Most recently, the Sharks fell to Barry, 3-1. However, NSU is currently ranked third in the SSC in blocks at 110, with Sydney Cook (Jr., Miami, Fla.) ranking second in the conference with 62 total blocks, 14 solo and 48 assisted. NSU is still ranked second in the SSC in digs with 913 (avg. 15.47 per set), with Candice Johnson (Sr., Chuluota, FL) ranking second in digs with 272 (avg. 4.64 per set).

The Tampa Spartans are ranked No. 1 this season in the most recent AVCA Division II poll for the fourth straight week and the 56th week in program history. The Spartans currently hold a 42 SSC match winning streak, both a school and league record. Junior Berkley Whaley was named the MVP of the Colorado Premier tournament last weekend, leading the Spartans with 182 kills, 104 digs and 19 total blocks. Senior Kahley Patrick leads the Spartans with 557 assists, joining the Colorado Premier All-Tournament team with Whaley.
