FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University athletic department will host a game of knockout for a chance to win a $5,000 tuition scholarship at Friday's homecoming basketball doubleheader. One student is guaranteed to win $500 for the student organization of their choice and will shoot a half-court shot for a $5,000 winter semester tuition scholarship.
Sign up will begin at 4 p.m. Friday in the NSU Arena, which will last into the 4:30 p.m. men's basketball game vs. Johnson. During the third media timeout of the first half, contestants will be announced for a halftime game of knockout. There will be two games going at each basket, and the two winners will advance to round two.
During the first half of the 7 p.m. women's basketball game against Alabama-Huntsville, the two winners will go head-to-head in a shooting contest. The winner will win $500 for the student organization of their choice and will shoot a half-court shot for the tuition scholarship during a timeout in the second half.
The game of knockout consists of an unlimited amount of players and two basketballs. One player will take a free throw shot, and will go to the back of the line if he or she makes it. If the player misses, he or she will have to make a layup before the next player makes a shot. If the player after them makes a shot before their layup goes in, they are knocked out. The game continues until one player remains.
If the finalist makes the half-court shot, they will receive $5,000 towards tuition only for the 2015 winter semester. If you are an NSU student-athlete during the 2014-15 academic year, NCAA rules prohibit you from participating in this contest/promotion. For more information, contact Patrick Lillis at
