ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Sharks remained undefeated in their last day in the Eckerd College Tournament against Daemen, 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-16) and Queens (3-2, 25-18, 25-16, 17-25, 22-25, 15-6).

Katie Pyles (So., Denver, Colo.) dominated the court, posting a triple-double in both matches of the day. The Sharks' sweep against Daemen marked NSU's ninth straight set win in the season, an accomplishment the program has not done since Sept. 5, 2009.

Match One: Daemen

The Sharks created a dramatic opening set, taking the lead within the last points in the game. Back-to-back service aces allowed Daemen to tie the score at 11 before the Sharks made the side out for the win. One of eight kills in the game by Sydney Cook (Jr., Miami, Fla.) put the Sharks up by one, and a service ace by Courtney Crawford (Jr., Brooksville, Fla.) put the Sharks up two. The Wildcats shook the Sharks after tying the score at 22 and taking the lead on a kill by Lindsey Nowack. Cook responded and scored three of the last four points needed to close the game, 25-23.

The Sharks' defense held Daemen to 14 points in the second set. Four Wildcat errors and kills by Pyles and Dana Holger (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) combined to bring the Sharks biggest margin to 10 points at 22-10. Two attack errors by Daemen closed the set for the Sharks, 25-14.

NSU kept the lead for the entire third set as three consecutive kills by Pyle gave the Sharks their biggest margin at five, 10-5.  The Sharks maintained the five-point lead before four Wildcats errors closed the set for the Sharks, 25-16.

Pyles had a career-best match, posting a triple-double in a three-game sweep with 12 kills, 18 assists and 11 digs. Cook came second in hits with eight, followed by Caitlin Dohnaue (Jr., Miami, Fla.) with six. Candice Johnson (Sr., Miami, Fla.), also posted double-digit digs with 14 and had four assists in the match.

Match Two: Queens

The Royals tied the score twice in the opening set before the Sharks pulled out the 25-18 win. An attack by Bialkowski closed the deficit for the Royals at 12 before the Sharks regained the lead on back-to-back errors by Queens. Holger drew in the four of the last five points on kills to take the 25-18 set win on the Sharks higgest in set hitting percentage at .429.

The score tied twice before the Sharks pulled away for the 25-16 second set win. With the score tied at 7, back-to-back hits by Holger and Pyles and two Queens errors put the Sharks up 11-7. The Sharks went up by eight on kills by Cook, Donahue and Kaelyn Brock (Fr., La Quinta, Calif.) before Pyles closed the set at 25-16.

Errors cost the Sharks the third as they fell to the Royals, 25-17, which ended their consecutive set win streak at 10.

The Sharks held a strong game against Queens before falling in the last points of the fourth set. NSU lost a 20-18 lead after the Royals rallied for six straight points to move ahead 24-20. A kill by Donahue and an attack error by Queens put the Sharks within two points before Queens closed the game, 25-22.

With the Sharks' three-match win streak on the line, NSU maintained a three-point lead the entire fifth set. Pyles, who held a triple-double for the second consecutive match, brought in back-to-back kills before Cook ended the game a slam down the right side.

Pyles led the match with 14 kills, 28 assists and 12 digs. Cook also had double digits in kills with 11 alongside Holger with 10. Johnson led the match in digs with 20.

The Sharks went undefeated, 4-0, in the Eckerd College Tournament, and will host their first game of the season against Colorado Christian Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m.
