FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team will play their last match prior to starting conference play when they host Florida Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the NSU Soccer Complex.
The Sharks (2-1-0) are coming off their home opener and first loss of the season, 2-0 on Saturday to No. 19 Tampa. Florida Memorial, an NAIA school out of the Sun Conference, comes in with a record of 1-6-1. Among the losses was a 7-0 decision at the hands of Sunshine State Conference school Eckerd on Sept. 9.
Pacing the Lions so far this season is Giorgia Dunne with four goals. Bianca Combe, Brenda Davilla and Mirian Alvarenga Paez each have three goals, while Davilla has five of the team's seven assists.
FMU will not be the Sharks' final nonconference opponent of the year, as there will be two such matches to end the regular season, but in between is NSU's SSC slate, spanning eight consecutive contests. Saint Leo is first on the docket with a road match this upcoming Saturday, Sept. 27, at 4:30 p.m.
This will be the second all-time meeting between the schools. On Sept. 8, 2010, the Sharks prevailed 4-0 in their home opener, outshooting the Lions 24-3 and taking all nine corner kicks.
Following the conclusion of the women's match on Tuesday, the NSU men's soccer team will have a scrimmage against Eastern Florida State College. Fans are welcome to attend, and admission will be free. Live streaming (
