Volleyball Returns to Florida to Face Lynn

Sharks gearing up for second half of Sunshine State Conference competition.

FORT LAUDERDALE – After a successful weekend on the road at the South Region Crossover, the Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (13-7, 4-3 SSC) returns to Florida to face Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn (11-7, 2-5 SSC) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Boca Raton.

Traveling to Georgia for the annual regional crossover between the SSC and the Gulf South Conference, the Sharks came away with a 2-1 record this past weekend. NSU began with a 3-0 win over West Alabama that ended a three-match losing streak on Friday. Following the win, the Sharks dropped a tough, hard fought 3-1 battle to North Alabama to close out the opening day of competition. However, NSU managed to finish the weekend strong with another victory, this time 3-2 over Union after being down two sets to start the match.

Dana Holger (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) finished the weekend with a team best 49 kills averaging 4.08 per set. As the team leader, she was named to the All-Tournament team, her third all-tournament honor this season. Defensively, Devyn Main (So., Port Charlotte, Fla.) accumulated 16 total blocks over the three matches averaging a team high 1.33 per set. In the match against Union, she collected a career-high nine blocks besting her previous career best set two weeks prior.

Earlier this season, NSU and Lynn squared off in the first of two meetings at the NSU Arena where the Sharks came out on top 3-0. In that match, the Sharks out hit the Fighting Knights with a .257 team hitting percentage, while LU hit .176.  NSU will be looking for the season sweep over the Fighting Knights, but this time it will be in hostile territory as the Sharks will travel to the de Hornelle Center in Boca Raton for a 7 p.m. matchup.

Holger is also fourth among the conference leaders this season averaging 3.47 kills per set, while freshman Denvyr Tyler-Palmer (Jacksonville, Fla.) is among the top-15 averaging 2.71. She also is among the top-10 league leaders in service aces per set. Defensively, Main has moved into the eighth spot in total blocks, while Kaelyn Brock (So., La Quinta, Calif.) currently ranks ninth in digs.

Lynn does have one of the conference's most efficient hitters on their team in Claire Angelich who ranks second in the SSC with a .341 hitting percentage. In their last meeting Angelich led the Fighting Knights with 11 kills and a .321 hitting percentage in their 3-0 loss to the Sharks.
