Volleyball Outlasts Rollins on "Think Pink" Night, 3-1

Devyn Main records career-high eight blocks while defending the net.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Having struggled in their previous two outings, the Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (11-3, 4-1 SSC) pulled it together on Friday night and rebounded with a 3-1 Sunshine State Conference win over Rollins (1-11, 0-4 SSC). The Sharks won by set scores of 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-21 at the NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center.

Senior Dana Holger (Lino Lakes, Minn.) continued to anchor the Sharks' offensive attack. For the second time this season, she picked up 22 kills matching her career-high set just a week ago at Florida Tech. She finished with a .367 hitting percentage and committed only four errors in 49 swings.

"Dana played a phenomenal match tonight matching her career-high kills and hitting .367," head coach Jenn King said. "She's been stepping up tremendously in our last four matches and I'm really proud of her."

Denvyr Tyler-Palmer (Fr., Jacksonville, Fla.) recorded her second career double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs, while Caitlin Donahue (Sr., Miami, Fla.) hit a blistering .417 and added another 11 kills. Devyn Main (So., Port Charlotte, Fla.) dominated the net defensively for the Sharks and finished with a team-high eight blocks. Her eight total blocks surpassed the most by any individual player in a single match this season and was a career-high.

A sluggish start resulted in the Sharks falling behind early dropping the first set 25-19 to the visiting Tars. Rollins jumped out to an early 12-5 lead and never turned back. They finished the frame with 19 kills and hit a whopping .471 to NSU's 10 kills and .250 team percentage to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The second and third sets were mirror images of one another. Both teams battled to a 20-20 tie in each of the sets, but NSU managed to outscore Rollins 5-3 down the stretch twice and took both by 25-23 scores to over the early deficit and regained the lead 2-1. With the score tied 15 all in the final set, NSU went on a 10-6 scoring run to close out for the 25-21 win to take the match by a 3-1 final.

The Sharks will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 hosting SSC provisional member Embry Riddle at the NSU Arena. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m. Multimedia video streaming and live stats will be available by visiting www.NSUSharks.com
