FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team opens up their Sunshine State Conference slate after a 3-1 start to the season when they travel to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern Wednesday night at 7.
The Sharks won their first three matches before suffering their first loss, at the hands of North Alabama, last time out. Meanwhile, their SSC counterparts Wednesday are searching for their first victory of the year, as the Mocs are 0-2-1.
Sierra Lelii's (R-Sr., Seminole, Fla.) six goals in her first three matches places her third in all of Division II with a 1.5 per game average, and she is also seventh in points per game with an additional assist. Teammate and classmate
Samantha Gestido (Hialeah, Fla.) is fifth in the country in assists at four total, 1.0 per.
As a team, the Sharks are in the top 16 nationally in six categories: scoring offense (11th, 3.5 per), total goals (11th, 14), points (12th, 9.25 per), assists (14th, 2.25 per), total points (15th, 37) and total assists (16th, 9).
The Mocs have been outscored 6-2, with their goals scored by Gianna Conte and Anna Griessler. Izzy Loyd has both of the team's assists. Keeper Helena Norrstrom has played all 290 minutes in goal with a save percentage of 70.0.
Last season, also in Lakeland, the Sharks came away with a 3-2 overtime victory for conference win No. 1 of the season.
Julia Nytorp (Sr., Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) had two goals, including the game-winner with 3:25 left in the first OT.
Sarah Keville (Sr., Vero Beach, Fla.) added the third score. All-time, the series is in favor of NSU, 8-5-2.
