Men’s Soccer Begins Four-Match Road Trip at Ave Maria

Sharks face Gyrenes Saturday at 1 p.m.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team (4-2-0) will begin a four-match road trip Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Ave Maria Gyrenes (1-3-0).

NSU enters the match with four wins in six matches after a 2-1 win over NAIA powerhouse and provisional Sunshine State Conference members, the Embry-Riddle Eagles. The Sharks were lifted by a pair of goals from Nate Bladecki (Fr., Troy, Mich.) and Stefano Fanfoni (Sr., Cremona, Italy), each scoring their second goals of the season.

A victory at Ave Maria would make the Sharks' the fastest men's soccer team at NSU to reach five wins since 2008, a year in which NSU ranked ninth in the nation. Regardless of rankings, the 2015 Sharks have already proved to be one of the stronger, deeper NSU teams in the last several seasons.

In order to earn that fifth victory, the Sharks will have to take down a Gyrenes squad that has had an up and down season. The highlight came in their lone win, a 15-0 victory over Trinity College. However, their schedule includes two losses to Trinity Baptist and most recently, a 5-0 shutout to Florida College on Thursday.

The Sharks have played Ave Maria three times in program history and hold an undefeated record against them. Last year, NSU hosted the Gyrenes and earned a 6-2 victory in front of nearly 700 fans. The last time NSU played at Ave Maria was in 2013, with NSU winning 1-0 on a goal in the 85th minute. Karl Enarsson (Sr., Gothenburg, Sweden) scored the game-winner, the first of three goals against the Gyrenes in his career. Andres Martin racked up 13 saves on the night. The effort was two saves short of the program high for saves against, set by Florida Tech in 1997.
