Lelii Scores Twice Again; Women's Soccer Defeats FMU, 5-0

Senior forward adds an assist, while fellow senior Gestido has assist and first career goal

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team moved to 3-0 on the season, pitching their first shutout of the year behind the efforts of all four goalkeepers in a 5-0 victory over Florida Memorial Tuesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.

Both teams were a bit slow to start, but Sarah Keville (Sr., Vero Beach, Fla.) was the first Shark to get on the board, off a beautiful cross from one side of the box to the other by Sierra Lelii (R-Sr., Seminole, Fla.) in the 23rd minute.

Lelii, the reigning SSC Player of the Week, kept up her early-season momentum by scoring two goals yet again, now achieving that feat in each of the Sharks' first three games. On Tuesday, they came in rapid-fire succession, in the 30th and 33rd minutes, each off long passes over the top. The first assist came from Tori Vives (Sr., Cooper City, Fla.); the second by Elizabeth Haumschild (Sr., Riverview, Fla.).

That score held at the half, and the Sharks added two more scores almost back-to-back a few minutes after the break. Notching the first of her career was true freshman Khirah Madison (Burleson, Texas) in the 68th minute. The opportunity was fed to her close-in by fellow newcomer Emily Stearns (Fr., Orlando, Fla.), after she received it from a great distance from Samantha Gestido (Sr., Hialeah, Fla.), with both earning assists on the play.

Gestido, a fourth-year player, picked up the first goal of her Shark career 2:37 later on a 30-yard shot that went up, over and off the fingertips of the Lions goalkeeper. That made for the final score and eventually the third straight victory by NSU.

The Shark goalkeepers all logged over 20 minutes in the net and posted a combined six saves: Jordan Lentz (So., Fort Myers, Fla.) to start, followed by Amanda Kopale (R-Jr., Cape Coral, Fla.) to end the first half; then the combination of freshmen Olivia Post (Evanston, Ill.) and Fatima DiModica (Naples, Fla.) post-intermission.

NSU outshot their southern counterparts 38-11 in total, 19 in each period. They had five corner kicks to FMU's one.

Next up is another home matchup for the Sharks, versus North Alabama on Friday night. Game time is 7 p.m. from the NSU Soccer Complex.
