Christophe Powers Sharks Past Sailfish

Freshman forward notches first career hat-trick

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as the Sharks defeated the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish for the second time this season Saturday night. Freshman Hannah Christophe provided all the cushion the Sharks would need, tallying her first career hat-trick and second multi-goal game this season, to help Nova Southeastern improve to 8-1-1 with a 4-1 victory on the road.

The first matchup against PBA was a 1-0 victory for the Sharks with a late header, but round two was a different case as the Sharks scored two goals in the first four minutes of the match. Christophe broke the ice with her first goal of the night in the second minute, slipping past PBA's keeper Isabella Granlund and scoring in the empty net.

Not even two minutes later, freshman Alexys Nowak gave the Sharks a 2-0 lead with a header off a corner kick by senior Nichole Poppe. The goal was Nowak's third of the season. The Sailfish put up a number of threats to cut into the Sharks' lead, but freshman keeper Ida Norstrom kept PBA off the board by knocking away anything that came in her direction.

The Sharks were not content with a two-goal lead as Christophe struck again with her second goal of the match in the 33rd minute. Again, Christophe showed off her moves as she slipped past Granlund and found an empty net to give the Sharks a commanding 3-0 advantage at the half.

In the second half, the Sailfish would not go down without a fight as they scored their only goal of the match in the 68th minute from Claire Allen. Trailing 3-1, the Sailfish needed two more goals to tie with 22 minutes left, but Christophe eliminated any sign of a PBA comeback in the 86th minute.

Christophe received a pass from Paige Napolitano and squeezed her shot through a crowd, finding the back of the net for the third time tonight to give the Sharks a 4-1 lead.

Norstrom made six saves in the effort to improve to 6-1-1 in net this season.

The Sharks will be back in action Saturday, October 8 as they travel to Saint Leo to face the league-leading Lions at 7 p.m. ET.
