Sharks Seek ‘W’ Following 11-Day Layoff

NSU enters match versus Florida Tech 5-0-1 at home this season

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – With its current unbeaten streak already at six matches, No. 20 Nova Southeastern will look to add to its recent run when it welcomes Florida Tech to the NSU Soccer Complex this Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.

Off to their best overall start in program history at 8-1-1, the Sharks have yet to play a match since back on October 1. Any potential concerns because of the layoff should be minimized, though, after the way Nova Southeastern rolled over Palm Beach Atlantic in its latest contest back at the beginning of the month.

Led by freshman Hannah Christophe's first career hat trick and Alexys Nowak's third goal of the season, the Sharks cruised past the Sailfish with a comfortable 4-1 win. Nova Southeastern jumped out to a 2-0 cushion just 3:40 into the game en route to its second victory of the year over PBA, and has now outscored its previous three opponents by an 8-1 margin.

The Panthers, however, will also be riding their own bit of momentum when both clubs meet after knocking off top-ranked, and three-time defending national champion Grand Valley State on the road on October 5. Receiving votes in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), second-year head coach Dustin Smith's club used two goals after halftime from forward Keira McCarthy to send the Lakers to their first home defeat since October 17, 2014.

McCarthy paces Florida Tech's attack with nine goals this season, second-most in the Sunshine State Conference.

NSU notched a 3-2 victory at Florida Tech a year ago, the most goals scored in a single-game against the Panthers in 2015.

In partnership with the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation and the Memorial Cancer Institute, the NSU Athletic Department is extending free admission for Wednesday's match to any cancer survivors, warriors and families (up to four people). The first 150 fans at each game will receive a Just Win T-shirt, as well as educational collateral and information on cancer resources. Additionally, free pink giveaways will be on hand, while special game break promotion prizes will also be offered.
