FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Following yet another tough luck loss earlier in the week, Nova Southeastern will look to erase the sour taste in its mouth when it takes on visiting Rollins Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET.
As they have in each of their previous three matches, the Sharks once again found themselves knotted up at 1-1 in the second half this past Wednesday against Florida Tech following
Bestun Mohammed's equalizer in the 52
nd minute. However, the Panthers' Adin Kavara cashed in after being awarded his second penalty kick of the match in the 85
th minute to turn away the Sharks' hopes of a victory.
Nova Southeastern's offense has seen an uptick in production, averaging 1.33 goals per game in its last three after failing to score during a four-game stretch during the month of September. Mohammed's play has keyed the improved numbers as the native of Oslo, Norway has scored twice during that time, and now leads the club in goals, points and shots.
More goals for Mohammed and the rest of the Sharks may be on the way, too, with Rollins entering Saturday's matchup having allowed three goals per game during the month, including a season-high four against Florida Southern back on October 5.
The Tars started the year hot, off to a 4-1-1 record. Since then, though, Rollins has been a mixed bag, alternating wins and losses in each of its last five contests. The latest result came as a 3-2 defeat earlier in the week at Palm Beach Atlantic despite a goal and an assist from 2015 All-American Tosan Popo. The senior midfielder isn't quite on pace for the 18 assists he racked up a year ago, yet has still flashed with seven goals and three assists in 11 starts.
Popo will be joined on the attacking end by fellow midfielder Matt Volk, who has also notched seven goals in 2016 to help the Tars form one of the most prolific duos throughout the Sunshine State Conference.
Saturday's conference matchup marks just the second time the Sharks will have played in two weeks, while Rollins will hit the pitch for its third match over a five-day span. For complete coverage of the action, follow along on Twitter at @NSUMSoccer and by clicking on the provided links on the
