Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Sharks Fall Late to Tritons, 2-1

Eckerd scores game-winner in the 79th minute Saturday night

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Nova Southeastern's men's soccer team got on the board first, but Eckerd had the last laugh as they scored the final two goals to defeat the Sharks 2-1 in St. Petersburg, Florida Saturday night. The loss drops the Sharks to 3-10, 1-7 in Sunshine State Conference play.

The Sharks started the attack early putting Eckerd on their heels, but keeper Alex Gott made sure to keep NSU off the board. However, in the 27th minute the Sharks struck first when Bestun Mohammed buried a rebound into the back of the net after Noel Johnson had a shot saved by the Eckerd keeper.

After the first goal, the teams battled for position until Eckerd was finally able to equalize following its first shot on goal. Moritz Hannemann tied the match for the Tritons in the 38th minute after receiving a pass from Robert Labus, and put it just out of the reach of Sharks' keeper Nico Rosiglioni.

The Tritons nearly made the score 2-1 before the half, but their shot went wide and both teams went into the break tied 1-1.

Both teams battled in the second half, trading shots, but no one could find the back of the net until there was little time left.

Robert Labus gave the Tritons a 2-1 lead in the 79th minute off a header that just made it over the finger-tips of Rosiglioni. With 10 minutes left, the Sharks desperately tried to equalize but Eckerd held them without a shot and the final horn sounded with the Tritons holding onto a 2-1 victory.

Both teams were nearly equal in shots but it was the Tritons who edged the Sharks 13-11, eight of them coming in the second half. Despite only having five shots on goal, the Tritons capitalized when it counted.

The Sharks will return home to play the Saint Leo Lions on Wednesday, October 26th at 7:00 p.m. ET. For complete coverage of the action, follow along on Twitter at @NSUMSoccer and by clicking on the provided links on the schedule page.
