Volleyball Plays Host to Lynn

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team is set to host fellow Sunshine State Conference member Lynn University on Tuesday evening in the NSU Arena. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.

The Sharks went 1-2 last week against tough conference competition. Down two sets to none in its most recent outing against host Saint Leo, the Sharks rallied back to force a fifth set, but ultimately fell short, 3-2 (25-27, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 16-18). Jessica Ronyak led all players with 18 kills and made it a double-double, scooping up 10 digs. Denvyr Tyler-Palmer also recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 16 digs and Katie Pyles contributed 47 assists to go along with eight kills and 12 digs. Megan Burns recorded 27 digs and Sam Blasko had 11, and both players had two aces.

NSU will look for the season sweep on Tuesday evening, after the Sharks topped LU earlier this season in a five-set marathon (15-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18, 15-5). Roynak notched 21 kills, leading any player of the match, and added four digs. Tyler-Palmer tallied 17 kills, 12 digs and two blocks while Natalie Melcher added three blocks and two service aces. Burns had 13 digs to go along with three aces and Maddie Uilk tallied three solo-blocks and one block assist. Pyles contributed 36 assists and four blocks.

Tyler-Palmer and Ronyak are currently ranked in the top-10 of the conference this season, averaging 3.72 and 3.16 kills per set, respectively. Defensively, Burns sits at second-best in the league, averaging 5.19 digs per set. She also is ranked seventh in the SSC for service aces, with 35.

Lynn does have a couple efficient hitters on their team in Cleuza Porto and Lydia West, who rank fifth and tenth in the SSC with an average 3.89 and 2.94 kills per set. In their last meeting Porto led the Fighting Knights with 16 kills and a .286 hitting percentage in their 3-2 loss to the Sharks.
