FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 21 Nova Southeastern University women's basketball team (2-1, 1-0 SSC) cruised to a 94-56 victory over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (2-1, 0-1 SSC) on Wednesday night at the NSU Arena.
The Sharks started the game hot and never let up. The team jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in the first quarter and went on to stretch it to 25-13 to end the period. NSU collected seven steals in the opening frame and made 11 of their first 14 free throws.
In the second quarter, it was much of the same. Though the Sailfish scored the first four points, the Sharks came back with seven in a row that started a 24-9 run to end the half, putting them in front 49-26. The Sharks went 10-of-16 from the field and 4-of-6 from long distance.
The NSU offense was even better coming out of the halftime break. Going 11 of 17 from the field, including four three pointers, the Sharks scored 29 points in the quarter to extend their lead to 78-48.
Amanda Tivenius scored the team's first nine points in the third, giving her 11 for the game, her first double-digit scoring effort in her first start as a Shark.
In the final 10 minutes of action, the Sharks defense stifled the Sailfish holding them to just eight points and just over a 15 percent field goal percentage. NSU added another 16 to their total to pick up their first Sunshine State Conference win of the season by a final of 94-56.
Samantha Logan recorded her second double-double in as many games, with 14 rebounds and shared the team-high 16 points with
Taylor Buie, who made all four of her attempts from beyond the arc. Buie also added five assists and picked up five steals.
In just her third career start,
Katie Barnard added 10 points while
Maria Bardeeva and
Megan Piggott added 11 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench. Barnard also matched her career-high of eight rebounds.
