FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Harrison Goodrick topped the 20-point mark for the third consecutive ball game, but Nova Southeastern's 23 turnovers proved too costly as Lynn held off the Sharks 80-68 Saturday evening at NSU Arena.
The loss marks the third straight for Nova Southeastern, dropping the Sharks to 2-5 on the year and 1-4 in Sunshine State Conference play. Meanwhile, Lynn improves to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Dwayne Gibson and Nikita Orap joined Goodrick in double-figures, finishing with 11 and 10 points respectively. Outside of those three, however, Pat Huffine and Troy Spears were the only other players to record more than one field goal for the Sharks in the effort.
Jamal Palmer paced the Fighting Knights with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting to go along with Terrell Rogers' 20-point performance off the bench for a Lynn club that earned its first SSC victory despite being held to just 39.7 percent from the field.
After grabbing their only lead of the night just 26 seconds into the contest, the Sharks dug themselves an early hole by falling behind 19-7 at the 14:10 mark in the opening half. A three-pointer in transition by Huffine, though, would narrow the gap to five with 5:30 to go before the break.
The deficit ballooned back to 11 late in the first half before Spears capped a timely 8-0 run with a lay-up as Nova Southeastern eventually headed into the locker room down just 36-31.
Two of Goodrick's 21 points knotted up the game at 38-38 with 17:30 to play in regulation. The Knights answered right back, however, and gained some breathing room thanks to one of Rogers' two triples in the contest. Just when it seemed as though the game would turn into a back-and-forth battle, Lynn distanced itself by double-digits once again on a put-back by Palmer to put the Knights up 58-47 midway through the second half.
A personal 6-0 spurt by Orap would bring the Sharks back to within four down the stretch, but Nova Southeastern wouldn't get any closer the rest of the way as it fell to Lynn at home for just the second time since the 2011-12 season.
With a busy week ahead, NSU will return to the court Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. ET in a meeting with sixth-ranked West Liberty. For complete coverage of the action, log onto NSUSharks.com or follow the Sharks on Twitter @NSU_MBasketball.
