Box Score FLORENCE, Ala. – Emma Heikkila's two goals pushed the Nova Southeastern women's soccer team to victory, 2-0, over Mississippi College in the Sharks' final game of the Lion Shootout on Sunday morning.
After a scoreless first half, Heikkila's first goal came at the 69:37 mark, when the rookie took a feed from
Bailey Corbin and gave NSU (4-1) a 1-0 advantage.
Shortly after, at the 72:57 mark, Heikkila struck again, this time assisted by
Tova Nilsson, to push the Sharks ahead, 2-0.
Offensively, the Sharks and the Choctaws (2-2) were neck and neck. The Sharks held the advantage in total shots taken, 14-13, but the Choctaws edged NSU in shots on goal, 4-3.
Ida Norstrom picked up her third win of the season, spending all 90:00 minutes in goal for the Sharks and making four saves to preserve the shutout.
MC's Andrea McDonald took the loss, making just one save and allowing two goals in 90:00.
NSU is back in action on Wednesday, kicking off conference play against Florida Southern at 7:00 p.m. at the NSU Soccer Complex.
