TAMPA, Fla. – Nova Southeastern started fast before holding on down the stretch to secure a 3-2 victory on the road at Tampa Saturday night. Freshman
Hannah Christophe notched two goals and an assist in the effort as the Sharks ran their win streak to three and improved to 2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Avenging last season's loss to the Spartans in the SSC Tournament semifinals, Nova Southeastern didn't wait long to get on the board this time around. On the receiving end of an assist from
Sini Laaksonen, Christophe beat Tampa keeper Sydney Ross in the 10
th minute to give the Sharks the early cushion.
In the 30
th minute
Emma Heikkila joined in on the action, doubling Nova Southeastern's lead to 2-0 with her third goal of the 2016 campaign.
The Sharks held the same two-goal advantage into the second half, but saw that margin dwindle after Lauren Cicero hooked up with Ali Robinson for the Spartans' first score of the match in the 53
rd minute.
As she did on multiple occasions throughout the contest, though, Christophe stepped up when the Sharks needed a timely lift. This time providing the assist, Heikkila connected with Christophe at the 74-minute mark to give Nova Southeastern some necessary breathing room.
Tampa countered less than five minutes later, but proved to not be enough as the Sharks picked up their first true road win of the season following the performance.
Freshman keeper
Ida Norstrom collected five saves in the 'W' and is now 5-1 overall in matches in which she has started in net for the Sharks.
