FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men's soccer team returns to home play on Friday evening, hosting the visiting Tigers of West Alabama at the NSU Soccer Complex at 7:00 pm.
After picking up their first win of 2016 on Tuesday evening over host St. Thomas, the Sharks look to continue their winning ways. Tuesday's win also served as the first career win at NSU by new head coach
Matt Watts, who took over the program in the spring.
Friday will be the second time the Sharks and the Tigers (0-1) have met. In 2015, UWA defeated the Sharks, 3-0 on their home pitch. Two of the goal scorers from the match, AJ Williams and Clay Green, return for the Tigers in 2016.
The Gulf South Conference men's soccer coaches selected West Alabama, the 2015 GSC Tournament Champion, the preseason favorites of the 2016 campaign. In its five years as a program, it is the first time the Tigers will begin the season as the league's No. 1 team.
Last season saw West Alabama hoist its second-straight GSC Tournament Championship Trophy, thus earning the team a place as the preseason favorite. In 2015, the Tigers claimed the GSC Regular Season Title with a 7-1-1 mark, while also going 10-7-2 overall. UWA was also the lone GSC men's soccer team to advance to the NCAA South Region Super 2 Tournament last season, falling in the first round to Palm Beach Atlantic.
