Sharks Fall To Union In Final Game of GSC/SSC Crossover Challenge

NSU kicks off SSC play on Wednesday against Lynn.

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball fell to the Union Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, 84-63, in its final game of the GSC/SSC Crossover Challenge.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
1ST QUARTER | The Sharks had the advantage in the first quarter, outscoring the home team 16-14. Down 11-10, NSU responded with a six-point run, started by a trey by Skyla Osceola, to grab the lead heading into the second quarter.
 
2ND QUARTER | A three pointer by Mikayla Thompson gave the Sharks their largest lead of the game, 22-14, at the 9:02 mark, before the Bulldogs started to chip away at the Sharks' lead. A trey by UU's Chelsey Shumpert gave the home squad its first lead of the game, 31-28, one they would not relinquish.
 
3RD QUARTER | The Bulldogs continued to keep the offensive momentum on their side, outscoring NSU 24-16 for the quarter. A layup by Kayla Wright at the the 2:02 mark cut the deficit to 10 points, 55-45, the closest the Sharks would get to the Bulldogs for the remainder of the game.
 
4TH QUARTER | Union was able to outscore the Sharks, 21-14, in the final frame, taking its largest lead of the game, 26 points, 84-60.
 
INSIDE THE STATS: 
  • Wright led all Sharks with 20 points, while also collecting a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Alison Hughes tallied nine points, while Cheray Saunders and Megan Piggott added six points each.
  • Natalia Leaks and Osceola recorded three assists apiece.
  • The Sharks were 88.9 percent from the line, compared to UU's 83.3 percent.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE: 
  • Union moves to a 4-1 advantage over the Sharks in the overall series with today's win.
  • Wright has scored in double digits in both games this year.

UP NEXT
 
The Sharks will kick off Sunshine State Conference play this Wednesday, traveling to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on the Lynn Fighting Knights at 5:30 p.m.
