FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team was defeated by the Tampa Spartans on Friday night at the NSU Soccer Complex in the semifinal round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Spartans scored what would eventually be the game-winning goal less than three minutes into the match when Alex Jackson assisted Ali Robinson on a volley off a corner kick.
- Tampa doubled the margin in the 21st minute, as Lacy Nasello found the net on a breakaway down the middle of the field.
- The Sharks got their best chance of the first half from Nicole Staley in the 33rd minute, but Spartan keeper Caroline Frykgard got a finger on it to tip the ball off the crossbar and away from danger.
- In the 41st minute, the Spartans padded their lead with another insurance goal, this time off the left foot of Erika Peitersen from a cross by Alexa Sheridan.
- The Sharks missed a big opportunity in the 64th minute when a yellow card called on the Spartans was immediately followed by a handball in the box. Gabriela Alfaro took the penalty kick attempt, but Frykgard guessed correctly on where Alfaro would send the shot and successfully came up with the save.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Sharks led the SSC in shots per game (19.2), shots on goal per game (8.7) and goals per game (2.1) in the regular season, but matched their season lows in all three stats in the loss.
- The Sharks were shutout for the just the second time this season.
- They also allowed three goals in a match for just the second time in 2017.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
- The Spartans had a 13-8 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.
- Nicole Staley led the Sharks with two shots, both on goal, while Alexa Sheridan had a team-high three shots for the Spartans, of which one was on target. Both players entered in reserve roles in the match.
