FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball team lost to the Florida Tech Panthers at the Rick Case Arena on Saturday afternoon by a score of 74-60.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1ST QUARTER | The Panthers scored seven in a row within the first two minutes for a 7-2 lead, but the Sharks stayed within range. After trailing 15-10, they scored seven straight of their own to take a 2-point lead before ending the first frame with a slight 19-18 edge.
2ND QUARTER | Florida Tech led consistently again in the second, but the Sharks still would not let them get too far ahead, scoring the last five points of the half to get within two, 32-30, going into the locker room for the halftime break.
3RD QUARTER | The Sharks tied the game just 30 seconds into the second half, but that would be as close as they would get for the rest of the game, as the Panthers went on an 11-0 run from there over the next 2:40. The Sharks narrowed the margin to five points three times the rest of the quarter, but the Panthers continued to build on their lead, taking a 57-48 advantage into the final period.
4TH QUARTER | The Panthers quickly brought their advantage back into double digits and maintained that cushion almost throughout the quarter, leading by as many as 18 before a couple late Sharks layups took the game to its final score, 74-60.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Kayla Wright was back to her offensive prowess, leading the Sharks with 19 points, shooting 9-of-12 from the field, and added seven rebounds.
- Alison Hughes joined Wright in double figures with 12 points, the highest of her career with the Sharks.
- Taylor Smith continued her impressive play of late, tallying eight points, including six at the charity stripe, in 26 minutes off the bench. She also came down with a team-high eight rebounds, despite entering with just one all season. In her last three games, the freshman is averaging 9.3 points and 2.7 steals in just 17.3 minutes per game, shooting 7-of-16 from the field (.438) and 14-of-18 from the line (.778).
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- After getting within two at the end of the second quarter, the Sharks were outscored 42-30 in the second half, allowing the Panthers to shoot 16-30 (.533) on field goals, all inside the 3-point arc.
- The Panthers hand a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds, which allowed them a 20-13 edge in second-chance points.
