Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late Bucket by Florida Tech Downs NSU, 75-74

Panthers score with 6.6 seconds left to slide past Sharks Saturday

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Florida Tech's Robert Booth connected on the game-winning bucket with 6.6 seconds remaining as Nova Southeastern fell in heart-breaking fashion to the Panthers 75-74 Saturday evening at Rick Case Arena.

Dwayne Gibson drilled one of his five three-point field goals in the effort to put the Sharks in front with 1:22 to play. A Sam Daniel triple, however, brought Florida Tech back to within one before Booth scooped up a near-turnover and converted the floating jumper as the clock wound down to send the Panthers to their first victory in their last five contests.

Harrison Goodrick recorded a double-double in the first half en route to a monster 25-point, 15-rebound performance, while Gibson finished with a career-high 24 points on 8-of-11 from the field. The rest of the Sharks' starting lineup, though, shot a combined 20 percent including 4-of-15 from beyond the arc.

The Sharks missed their first nine field goal attempts to begin the game, yet remained within one at the 10:44 mark of the first half after Gibson drilled a three on a feed from BJ Edwards. Edwards tallied four assists in 18 minutes in his first action since back on January 21.

Nova Southeastern grabbed its first lead of the night at 18-17, and soon stretched that advantage to nine following an old-fashioned three-point play by Goodrick. The senior dominated the inside in the opening 20 minutes, posting 13 points and 10 boards, to help give the Sharks a 39-29 cushion at the break.

Similar to the first half, however, Nova Southeastern started slow coming out of the locker room. Sunshine State Conference leading-scorer Jordan Majors converted the hoop and the harm to trim the Sharks' lead to 43-40 with 16:31 left. The ensuing possession, Majors scored three more – this time from behind the line – to even up the ball game 43-43.

Off the bench, freshman Carl Alenfall helped the Sharks reclaim a 62-61 edge on a lay-in in traffic with 5:27 showing on the clock. Both sides swapped buckets down the stretch, trading leads a total of three times, but the Sharks were still unable to get over the hump as their losing skid has now reached six games.

Booth registered 17 points and 17 boards in the win for the Panthers to go along with 19 points and 11 rebounds from point guard Patrick Anderson.

NSU will hit the road on Wednesday for a SSC matchup with Rollins beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. For complete coverage of the action, log onto NSUSharks.com or follow the Sharks on Twitter @NSU_MBasketball.
