Sharks Take Game One From Rollins, 2-0

Tonight served as Lexie Storrer’s sixth home win in a row.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team earned a 2-0 win in the first part of a three-game series over Rollins College on Friday night at the AD Griffin Sports Complex.

After two scoreless innings of play, the Sharks (21-19, 9-7 SSC) made it on the board, taking a 1-0 lead. With one out, Dana Edmundon drew a walk to put the Sharks in scoring position after Samantha Gonzales, who reached on a Tars (23-19, 5-8 SSC) error, advanced to second. A single by Dakota Villella loaded the bases before the next batter, Lexie Storrer, sent a sacrifice fly to shallow right field, scoring Gonzales.

The Sharks struck again in the bottom of the fifth. Erica Winter led off with a single to center and a sacrifice bunt laid down by Gonzales pushed her to scoring position. An error committed by the Tar's second baseman, Rachel Minier, allowed Acosta to reach first and for Winter to make it all the way home for an NSU 2-0 lead.

Overall, the Tars outhit Nova Southeastern, 4-2. Villella and Winter were the two lone Sharks to register a hit.

After her 7.0 innings of work, Lexie Storrer (15-8) earned her sixth-straight home win, allowing four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Rollins' starting pitcher, Grace Street, took the loss after allowing two runs, both unearned, and just two hits in her 6.0 innings in the circle. She also tallied six strikeouts and one walk.
