FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern rowing team and head coach
Devin Fay are pleased to welcome seven newcomers to the 2017-18 roster. Emma Brownawell, Jasmine Morris, Kassie Moss, Courtney-Rose Papion, Krystal Renta, Valentina Romeo and Emily Stewart, all freshmen, will start their careers as a Shark this fall.
After grabbing second place in the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Championship, and a first-place finish at the 2017 FIRA Championships, Fay hopes these new additions to the roster will help the Sharks improve what was built last season.
"We're excited for the next class of Sharks to join us," explained Fay. "These student-athletes will help us move towards being a team that trains like pre-elite athletes. All of these young women are committed to the work it will take to be champions, and we expect that that some will have an impact on our top-end speed very quickly."
Emma Brownawell
Emma Brownawell / Camden Hills Regional HS / Rockport, Maine
Emma Brownawell rowed for almost four years for Camden Hills. As a senior, she rowed in the first varsity boat in the Head of the Charles and helped her team place in the top-half of all races competed in.
Kassie Moss
Kassie Moss / Grand Island HS / Grand Island N.Y.
Kassie Moss competed in track in field and rowing for two years at Grand Island HS. She was also a member of the West Side Rowing Club.
Jasmine Morris
Jasmine Morris / Parkersburg South HS / Mineral Wells, W. Va.
A four-sport athlete at Parkersburg South, Jasmine Morris joins the Sharks after three years on the varsity rowing team. In her final season, she helped the varsity 4+ boat to a third-place finish at the Midwest Scholastics Championships and 59
th in the women's youth 4+ at the Head of the Charles.
Krystal
Krystal Renta
Renta / Belleville HS / Belleville, N.J.
A four-year rower for Belleville HS, Renta also competed in tennis for four years for the Buccaneers. As a senior, she was named captain of both of her squads. In 2016 and 2015, Renta earned strongest lightweight honors from her rowing team.
Valentina Romeo
Valentina Romeo / Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergrast Catholic HS / Drexel Hill, Penn.
Valentina Romeo was a four-year coxswain for the Pandas and helped lead her boat to a fourth place finish in the City Championships. She was honored with the Most Outstanding coxswain award back-to-back years and also earned a silver medal for Athletic Excellence as a senior.
Courtney-Rose Papion / Bakersfield HS / Bakersfield, Calif.
Courtney-Rose Papion
Courtney-Rose Papion, another four-sport athlete at Bakersfield HS in Bakersfield, will also be joining the team in 2017.
Emily Stewart
Emily Stewart / Saint Michael Catholic HS / Niagara Falls, Ontario
Emily Stewart joins the Sharks from Niagara Falls, Ontario, where she participated in varsity rowing for four years. During her senior year, she grabbed first place with Team Ontario at the Canada Cup in the U21 Quad Race and 16
th place in the youth 4+ boat at HOCR.
