Sharks Ride Early Offensive Outburst to Win Over Flagler

Sharks score four goals in first half.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Coming out of the opening whistle firing on all cylinders, Nova Southeastern scored on four of their first six shots en route to a true all-around team performance. Darwin Lom, Noel Johnson and Juanes Devia all reached the back of the net for the Sharks' highest-scoring match under Head Coach Matt Watts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Sharks wasted no time, as Darwin Lom beat a defender one-on-one to give them their first lead just six minutes into the game.
  • The Saints evened the match less than six minutes later on a goal by Quam Salami.
  • The Sharks took the lead for good in the 18th minute, when Ignacio Goya took a shot that resulted in an own goal.
  • Noel Johnson scored the next two, just five minutes apart, assisted by Juanes Devia on the first and Andrea Asti Brun on the second, for a comfortable 4-1 lead at the break.
  • Devia contributed a goal of his own in the 60th minute, off a pass from Goya, to bring the match to its 5-1 final.
  • Goalkeeper Nico Rosiglioni recorded four saves to earn the victory.    
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Nova Southeastern benefitted from an own goal for the first time since Sept. 1, 2012, when it was the difference maker in 1-0 home win against Carson-Newman.
  • Johnson recorded the first multi-goal effort of his career and the team's first in the 2017 season.   
 
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
  • The Sharks scored five or more goals in a match for the first time since a 6-2 win over Ave Maria on Sept. 10, 2014.
  • It was the most against an NCAA opponent since a 5-2 over Lynn on Oct. 27, 2010.
  • Their last such effort on the road was a 5-0 shutout at Georgia Southwestern on Aug. 30, 2008.
  • Lom's early goal to start the action was his first as a Shark, after 18 in two seasons with the Shorter Hawks.
