HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1 | Tied at 8-8 in the first set, the Lions used a four-point run to grab a 12-8 edge. Back-to-back errors by Saint Leo allowed the Sharks to come within two, 12-10, but that would be as close as they would get as SLU exploded for a nine-point run to take an overwhelming 21-10 lead. The two teams exchanged points back and forth, and NSU was able to string three points together at the end, but the Lions ultimately ended up on top, 25-16.
SET 2 | Much like the first set, the second saw a close game between the two teams until the Lions used an 8-1 run for a 10-4 lead, and never looked back. The visiting team used multiple-point runs to keep their lead way out in front.
SET 3 | Kills by
Denvyr Tyler-Palmer and an ace by
Rachael Nelson helped NSU grab an early 3-1 lead in the third set, and the Sharks kept that lead until at 6-6, SLU used three kills to steal the lead, 9-6. A kill by
Maddie Uilk and error by the Lions brought NSU within one, 9-8, but were unable to take back the lead as Saint Leo continued to use their offensive strength for a 25-13 win.
