HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Choctaws withstood a bit of an early surge by the Sharks before taking over for much of the first half.
  • Keeper Natalie Robayna kept the match scoreless in the 23rd minute following a remarkable punch save over the crossbar. However, the freshman had no answer for Mississippi College's Rita Okoro after a miscue by the backline allowed for the Choctaws to catch Robayna off her line for the game's first score.
  • Clinging to the 1-0 deficit down the stretch of the first half, the Sharks were unable to stop the bleeding, as the Choctaws doubled their lead to 2-0 heading into the break.
  • As expected, Nova Southeastern returned from halftime with its foot on the gas. Hannah Christophe threatened just 33 seconds into the second half, breaking loose from the Mississippi College. The right-footed attempt was turned away, though, on a beautiful kick save by Choctaws' keeper Andrea McDonald.
  • Adanna Edwards produced another scoring opportunity for the Sharks in the 52nd minute, only to have her shot turned away by McDonald as well.
  • Any momentum Nova Southeastern had built soon evaporated in the 58th minute when Mississippi College's Lindsey Stephenson closed the door on the match with her second goal of the season.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Following Friday's loss, the Sharks are now 0-5-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Nova Southeastern was shut out in each of its final two matches after being held scoreless just one other time throughout the season.
  • The Sharks will return 34 players in 2019 following the loss of both Gabriela Alfaro and Jemma House.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
  • Nova Southeastern outshot Mississippi College 7-5 in the second half after allowing 13 shots to the Choctaws in the opening 45 minutes.
  • Robayna finished the afternoon with five saves.
  • Christophe and Emma Heikkila recorded three shots apiece to lead the way offensively for the Sharks.
