BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team and the Lynn University softball team split a pair of Sunshine State Conference games on Saturday afternoon at the Lynn Softball field on Sunday afternoon. The Sharks fell to the Fighting Knights, 3-0, to start the day before taking the nightcap, 6-5.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE):
FINAL SCORE: Lynn Fighting Knights 3 (W: F. Olexa, 4-1), Nova Southeastern Sharks 0 (L: L. Storrer, 3-7),

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOTTOM 1ST: An RBI-double by Lynn's first baseman, Elizabeth Diaz, put the Knights on the board, 1-0.
BOTTOM 2ND: LU extended their lead to 2-0 an inning later as Victoria Rios sent an RBI-singlne through the left side to score Caitlin Rolston.
BOTTOM 5TH: Lynn's final run came in the fifth inning when Diaz sent a solo homer over the centerfield fence for their eventual 3-0 win.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Sharks were held to four hits throughout the game, two coming from Sydney Lageyre in her three at-bats.
- Lexie Storrer and Kailynn Blackwood accounted for the two remaining hits.
- Lynn out-hit the Sharks, 13-4.
- Storrer was handed the loss, tossing the complete game and allowing three runs on 13 hits.
- Lynn's Francais Olexa struck out six Sharks en route to her win in the circle.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Lageyre's two hits were the most she's tallied in a game so far this season.
- Lynn's 13 hits were the most allowed by Storrer this season.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME TWO):
FINAL SCORE: Nova Southeastern Sharks 6 (W: D. Sprengers, 1-2), Lynn Fighting Knights 5 (L: O. Saviskas, 0-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 1ST: After
Dana Edmundson led off with a single through the right side and
Kailynn Blackwood drew a walk,
Keeley Mayers singled to centerfield to load the bases. The next batter,
Lexie Storrer sent a two-RBI single to center to score Edmundson and Blackwood for a 2-0 NSU lead. Two batters later,
Kayla Kight sent a two-run homer to left center, pushing the Sharks out to an early 4-0 advantage.
BOTTOM 1ST: The Knights responded with three runs of their own in the home half of the inning, taking advantage of RBI-singles by Karolina Flores, Diaz and Mackenzie Wyatt, cutting the deficit to just one run, 4-3.
BOTTOM 2ND: Lynn knotted the game an inning later, 4-4, as Diaz sent her fourth RBI hit of the day, this time a single through the left side.
TOP 3RD: The Sharks jumped back out in front, 5-4, as Kight singled up the middle to score Mayers, who led the inning off with a double to left.
TOP 4TH:
Aly Loyd singled to second base to start the fourth and two batters later, Edmundson doubled to left field to score Loyd to give the Sharks a two-run cushion, 6-4.
BOTTOM 6TH: The Fighting Knights tried to close the gap in the sixth, but only managed to score one run on a sacrifice fly by Olexa, eventually giving NSU its 6-5 victory.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Kight had a day in the second half of Sunday's twinbill, going 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBI.
- Edmundson was also solid, going 3-for-4 with one RBI and one scored run.
- Mayers went 2-for-4 and scored once while Storrer was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
- Dominque Sprengers picked up the win in the circle, pitching all 7.0 innings and allowing five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Kight's homerun in the first was the first tallied by a Shark this season.
- Sprengers' win was her first this season.
- The Knights were forced to utilize four different pitchers, and Olivia Saviskas took the loss after pitching 2.2 innings and giving up two runs on five hits.

The Sharks will take a break from Sunshine State Conference play to host Kentucky State on Wed. Feb. 21 in a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m.
