Sharks Take Down No. 10 Saint Leo in Friday Night Showdown

The three-game series will conclude tomorrow with a doubleheader slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.

ST. LEO, Fla. – In the first game of the Sunshine State Conference matchup between the Nova Southeastern softball team and No. 10 Saint Leo, the Sharks took down the host team by a score of 1-0, posting their third-straight win over the ranked squad. Last season, the Sharks took the Saturday doubleheader, earning the series win over the Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
TOP 6TH: The lone run of the game came in the top of the sixth. With two outs on the board, Dana Edmundson drew a walk and then proceeded to steal second to put NSU in scoring position. The next batter, Dominique Sprengers, sent the RBI-single to left field to bring home Edmundson and represent the eventual winning tally.  
 
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Both teams were held to just three hits on the night, with Kailynn Blackwood, Edmundson and Sprengers tallying them for the Sharks.
  • In her 7.0 innings in the circle, Lexie Storrer improved her record to 8-10, allowing no runs on the three hits. She also delivered two strikeouts.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Both teams stranded four runners.
  • Last year, the Sharks took the series from SLU 2-1, with a walk-off RBI-single by alumni Dakota Villella.

UP NEXT: 

The three-game series between the Sharks and the Lions will conclude tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 10, with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
