HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman keeper Natalie Robayna corralled five saves in the opening 45 minutes, keeping the Sharks deadlocked with the Eagles entering halftime.
- Although the numbers suggested otherwise, it wasn't until the second half that the two offenses found much more of a rhythm. In the 54th minute, Embry-Riddle nearly broke through on a shot attempt by Julia Olsson, but Gabriela Alfaro cleared the ball off the line and out of danger to prevent the would-be score.
- With the match still knotted up 0-0 in the 78th minute, Heikkila gave a go at a deep shot from roughly 30 yards out, only to have the attempt sail just over the cross bar and out of play.
- Nova Southeastern appeared to secure the win less than four minutes into the first overtime when Adanna Edwards hammered home a feed from Hannah Christophe. A late whistle sounded, though, signaling offside to nullify the goal.
- The Sharks would earn a second chance in the 104th minute, and this time, had the ball bounce in their favor. Dribbling to her right, Heikkila fired back across the pitch from well beyond the 18-yard box. The low strike would then ricochet off the left post before deflecting off the Eagles' keeper and into the back of the net.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Wednesday's golden-goal victory marked the first for the Sharks since beating Barry 2-1 in overtime last Oct. 4.
- The Nova Southeastern backline registered its second consecutive clean sheet, and third overall this season.
- Following Wednesday's game-winner, Heikkila is now one of five Shark players with at least three goals this season.
S
TATS OF THE NIGHT:
- In just her second career start, Robayna collected nine saves, the most by a Sharks' keeper since Jordan Lentz equaled that mark on Oct. 7, 2017.
- Despite the low-scoring affair, both sides combined for 35 shots, including 14 on goal.
- Embry-Riddle keeper Fanny Kristiansson entered in the second half for starter Dana Ruchti, recording two saves in the 58:05 of game action.
