HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It took over seven minutes before either team attempted a shot. The Lions got the first one off, but it would end up being their only try of the entire half. The Sharks had their first opportunity four minutes later, followed quickly by three more in less than three minutes and 12 in total for the period, but none reached the back of the net and four were saved.
- They finally hit pay dirt just under three minutes into the second half on the first shot by either side. Christian Gorski earned the goal, and assists were credited to Milos Christoforou and Sebastian Loibl.
- The Lions didn't wait long to start looking for the equalizer, letting the Sharks enjoy their lead for a mere six minutes, attempting two shots before scoring on what would prove to be their only shot on goal for the entire match in the 55th minute.
- The Sharks immediately attempted to regain the lead, as both Tino Miguez and Henrik Berg were unable to score in the 57th. Berg would have another chance in the 64th - not allowing that one go to waste.
- The teams combined for nine shots the rest of the way, six by the Sharks and three for the Lions, but none were on target.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Henrik Berg has now scored a goal in four straight matches, accounting for 80 percent of his total scoring for the season, and is now tied with Loibl for second on the team in goals this season. This is his second game-winner during that span, the first coming just one week ago vs. Eckerd by the same 2-1 score.
- Gorski's goal is the second of his collegiate career and his first in conference action. The sophomore score for the first time in the 7-0 victory over Georgian Court on Sept. 8, the second match of the season.
- Loibl's assist extends his team-high mark to six. In his second year with the program, he now has 11 in his career to go along with his 15 goals, giving him a total of 41 points in just 27 matches. He also tallied 38 points on 15 goals and eight assists in his one season at Mount Olive prior to arriving in Fort Lauderdale.
- After missing the last two matches due to injury, Titouan Le Roux returned to action, improving his overall record to 5-4-3 on the year.
- The Sharks have now compiled four-game SSC win streaks in back-to-back seasons, a feat that had not been accomplished prior to the 2018 campaign since 2010.
- Fourth place in the SSC standings with 13 points and breaking a tie with Tampa thanks to their 2-0 road victory that ignited this streak, the Sharks sit just one point behind Palm Beach Atlantic for third, and three points behind Florida Tech for second. With both of their final two matches against teams lower in the standings, they control their own destiny to host an quarterfinal match of the SSC tournament for the second year in a row, after missing out on the postseason entirely in each of the previous three seasons.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
- After their 12-1 first-half shot advantage, the Sharks outshot Saint Leo in the second half as well, by a 10-6 margin, for a 22-7 edge overall. The Sharks had seven shots on goal, four in the first half and three in the second.
- Four different Sharks had three shots or more. Michael Lawrence led the way with five, followed by four each by Loibl and Matt Cornish and three from Henrik Berg. Only Lawrence and Berg had more than one shot on goal, at two apiece.
