FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The NSU Soccer Complex will be home to a pair of Sunshine State Conference Tournament quarterfinal matches on Monday, as both the men's and women's programs open postseason play – the men squaring off against Rollins at 4:30 p.m., while the women welcome Lynn at 7 p.m. The winners of each match will travel for Thursday's SSC semifinal round.
The NSU men are less than a week removed from facing Monday's opponent, although the Tars bested the Sharks by a final score of 2-0 in Winter Park, Fla. last Tuesday. Head coach
Matt Watts' team was shut out for just the third time this season, as the Tars struck twice in less than a three-minute span in the first half en route to victory. The Sharks, however, have won each of their past three home contests, and welcome back starting keeper
Titouan Le Roux, who has accounted for six of NSU's eight victories on the year.
The women, meanwhile, will look to rid themselves of the sour taste left after coming less than eight minutes away from locking up the SSC regular season title. Last Friday's 1-1 draw, instead, landed the Sharks the No. 3 seed in this week's tournament, yet will host a Lynn side that they knocked off 4-0 already this season back in late September. Both
Hannah Christophe and
Emma Heikkila tallied first-half goals in the win, and each enter postseason play among the Top-5 in the league in goals, assists and points.
As the No. 4 seed, a win would send the NSU men to Boca Raton, Fla. for a Thursday showdown at Lynn, with the women lined up to face Rollins on the road Thursday if they were to advance.
