FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 2020 Nova Southeastern men's and women's track and field squads will kick off the season in late February to begin eight consecutive regular season meets in the Sunshine State. In addition, in late April the Sharks will close out in North Carolina on three straight competitions with their sights set on the NCAA Championships in Kingsville, Texas.
Under the guidance of 12th-year head coach
Bryan Hagopian, the Sharks will open up 2020 on familiar ground, as hosts of the NSU Invitational at the home Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Fla. on Feb. 22.
"We're excited about this season coming up because of what we expect from our team," Hagopian said. "We have some more meets this year, including our home meet to kick off the season and two more out of the facility we call home. We're pretty pumped up and the schedule is just what we're looking for to develop our younger student-athletes and provide our upperclassmen more of an opportunity to get the rust off their spikes and get the times they need."
A Feb. 28 trip to the University of Tampa's UT Track Classic follows before returning twice to the Ansin Complex as a visiting team. Both hosted by St. Thomas University, first up is the Bobcat/Shark Relays on March 10 - Tuesday that week - preceding Saturday's March 14 Bobcat Invitational.
The next month delivers some core preparation for the Sharks with three largely Division I meets and another at a perennial Peach Belt Conference contender. First, the Sharks head south to Coral Gables on March 20-21 for the Hurricane Invitational at the University of Miami. Next, it's north to Daytona Beach for the 2020 Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic on April 3-4 for the bulk of the team, hosted by men's and women's defending PBC Champion ERAU. The most elite Sharks will head to Gainesville at the same time for the prestigious Pepsi Florida Relays, April 2-4 at the University of Florida's Pearcy Beard Track. The subsequent week provides the Sharks a return to Miami for the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, April 10-11.
First flight of the year for the Sharks sends NSU to Pembroke, N.C. for the Peach Belt Championships, April 23-25 at Dick & Lenore Taylor Track. Both the men's and women's squad for the Sharks recorded a third-place finish last season in Daytona Beach.
NSU will return to North Carolina two weeks later for two parts of the Mount Olive First Chance Qualifier. First, the Sharks will face the multi-event portion on May 8-9, then follow-up on the 10th with the main First Chance Qualifier meet, looking to secure final positioning for Nationals. The NCAA DII National Championships will be held at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium, May 21-23.
